About the Author

Michael J. McGuire has a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Pennsylvania (1969), and M.S. (1973) and Ph.D. (1977) degrees in environmental engineering from Drexel University.

A Successful Career in the Water Utility Industry

McGuire is well known in the water industry because he has worked for consulting firms advising water utilities and drinking water utilities his entire career. He worked for the Philadelphia Water Department and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. From 1992 to 2005, he also founded and managed McGuire Environmental Consultants, Inc.

Achievements and Awards

McGuire has been active in the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for more than 48 years. In 1994, he received the George Warren Fuller Award. Then, in 2009, AWWA presented him with the A.P. Black Research Award, and he was elected into the National Academy of Engineering. In 2014, he was presented the Dr. John L. Leal Award by AWWA for his efforts to promote public health through drinking water protection. The Abel Wolman Award of Excellence by AWWA was given to him in 2016.
